Ocean Crossing Rowboat

A new singlehanded ocean crossing rowboat design, intended for the punishing route from Japan to San Francisco. The hull design shares the self-righting characteristic with the Pedalboat, completed in 2022, which performed extremely well in rollover testing.

The hull shape is also optimized to reduce windage when rowing upwind and even derive benefit when "reaching" or running. For example, there is a wind vector pushing the boat forward all the way from dead astern to 30 degrees forward of the beam.

If you are interested in a special boat for a solo ocean row, the design plans are available.

Mock-ups below show the hull shape, sleeping quarters, and rowing position.
